They tried but failed miserably at escaping with a stolen chest containing $60,000 from the credit union in San Pedro and today the three accused were formally charged. 21-year-old fisherman Alexander Edwards, 20-year-old construction worker Javier Daniel Salazar, and his 19 year old brother, carpenter Gabriel Salazar, were all jointly charged with burglary. They were denied bail and remanded to the Hattieville Prison until January 31st.
As we reported last night, the men allegedly broke into the offices of St. Francis Xavier Credit Union on Lagoon Street early yesterday morning. They were allegedly seen struggling to escape with the stolen safe. The safe was later found submerged in a nearby lagoon. None of the $60,000 nor the documents were removed since it wasn't opened. We have confirmed that at least one of the men accused was charged earlier this year for a similar break-in into the offices of the town council.
