Two grieving brothers are tonight in police custody, being questioned in connection with a lawless attack on a woman police constable (WPC). The story is that: Clarence Pascasio and Lester Frazer, brothers of George Frazer, who was killed on New Year's Day by a policeman, are accused of assaulting and humiliating a uniformed woman constable in what is claimed to be an act of revenge.
It allegedly happened at 12:15 this morning while she was riding her chrome beach cruiser heading to work. She says as she was crossing the bridge from Mex Avenue onto Racecourse Street when a heavily tinted Jeep Cherokee pulled up and the occupants asked her about Donald Gillett the officer who actually shot and killed Frazer. She ignored them but the jeep then stopped and the occupants emerged; one was armed with a knife and the other a small gun. The WPC alleges that one of the men attempted to slap her but she blocked his hand. The men took away her bike, her purse, her police diary, and a gold ring. She adds that one of the men, who was barefooted and whom she recognized from a Channel 7 interview as Frazer's brother, told her he was going to take her police issued boots and socks, and he did. She was left there on the street, shoeless, and bike-less. But she got to work and made the complaint, and around mid-day police picked up Leslie Frazer and Clarence Pascasio in connection with the complaint.
7NEWS has been on the story even before the police were on the case, and we spoke to Clarence just before his detention. He told us that yesterday they laid George to rest and at 12 midnight when all this is alleged to have happened, he was asleep.
Clarence Pascasio, Accused of Attacking WPC
"If we are to get revenge, we will leave it up the Lord and make sure that person who killed my brother is found guilty."
Keith Swift,
Did you personally play any part in the attack last night?
Clarence Pascasio,
"I didn't have anything to do with that because after I left (the funeral), I went with the rest of my family and after that me and my girlfriend came home and from then we didn't go out back."
Keith Swift,
So 12:15 am you were in bed?
Clarence Pascasio,
"Yes. I was already sleeping."
Keith Swift,
I know yesterday was emotional because you guys buried your brother.
Clarence Pascasio,
"Yes and I don't think anybody (in my family) would do that because I think this police lady is giving a wrong description because my brother wouldn't do something like that."
Again that interview was conducted before the brothers were detained. Family members visited us this afternoon claiming that police are using excessive force on Clarence and Lester. Police say they are looking for three other suspects. And if you are wondering why the men would ask the WPC about PC Gillett, well our information is that the two have a close personal relationship.
