He snatched an 85-year-old grandmother's purse and then pushed her into a drain. Tonight the man accused of that unforgivable act is sitting in jail.
34-year-old sanitation worker George James who was arraigned before a Magistrate today for robbery and handling stolen goods for the December 12th attack on Grace Ysaguierre. Last week the frightened seenager told us that she was walking towards the Sister Cecilia Home for the Elderly when her attacker grabbed her purse and pushed her into a nearby drain. She claims the man ran off with her money, jewelry, and other valuables. Yesterday police picked up James who led them to a pair of stolen silver bracelets he had already sold. Their next stop was a residence on York Street where police recovered a flashlight, a hearing aid, a jewelry box, a fashion chain, and four watches, all the property of Ysaguierre. None of the persons who bought the stolen items were charged.
Despite allegedly leading police to the stolen items, James pleaded not guilty today in court. Magistrate Sharon Frazer denied him bail and remanded him to the Hattieville Prison until February 9th.
