He claimed to have been defending himself but that did not stop the police from charging a 17 year old with maim. The young man, Ventura Garcia was charged because he cut off 47 year old Belemo Cowo's index finger and thumb in a fight. This allegedly occurred after Cowo lashed Garcia to the back with the machete.
