He murdered a Belizean man in Los Angeles and now Californian Brandon Lee Owens will spend 35 years in a U.S. jail for it. His victim is 27-year-old Belizean American Denzel Alexander Garbutt who was shot to death on December 17th of 2004 in Los Angeles.
No motive is known but when he appeared before a California judge today Owens pleaded no contest. Judge Maria Teresa Herr handed down the 35-year sentence. Garbutt's mother beryl Westby and his sister Dawn Garbutt were in that California courtroom this morning. Judge Herr sentenced Owens to 35 years and ordered him to pay $10,000 to the family as payback for the money they spent to fly his body home to Belize for the funeral.
We don't know how long Garbutt was in L.A. but he was employed as a construction worker.
