He is charged with robbing two men at gunpoint and his defense is it wasn't him because he was busy buying drugs for the victims. That's the story 24-year-old Deon Pitts, aka thirties, told Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord today in court. Pitts is charged with two counts of robbery and one count of aggravated assault. His victims are Steven Arnold, Stephen Clarke and Anthony McKoy.
Their story is that around 5 pm on Monday evening they were standing at the corner of George and Basra Streets when two men on bicycles rode up. Arnold says one of the men pulled out a gun and told them not to move. Arnold says that the unarmed assailant whom he recognized as Deon Pitts grabbed two gold chains from his and Clarke's neck. Before riding off in the direction of rocky road, Clarke says one of the men told them: 'whe unu think about that.'
Pitts' defense at his arraignment was that the men sent him to buy one ounce of crack. He says when he returned the men had already been jacked. Bail was denied and he was remanded to prison until April 12th. His accomplice is still at large.
