He'd been arrested and charged for kidnapping his ex common law wife and now additional charges of rape and unnatural crime have been brought against a 23 year old with a colourful rap sheet.
We won't disclose his name because it could led to the identity of his ex wife but he appeared before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord today where the charges were read to him. No plea was taken and he was ordered to return to court on April 17th. Bail of $10,000 which he is presently out on will stand for the new charges. The accused man's ex-common law wife had reported to police that on the night of June 16th of last year, she was at a nightclub in Belize City when she was taken by force to his house on Mahogany Street Extension where she was raped and sodomized.
The charge of kidnapping arose from an incident which occurred on July 6th, 21 days after that terrifying encounter. At the time, she reported that the accused abducted her. From her home and held her captive at his home. Which charges for that offence were brought in July of last year, the earlier offence was only recently reported and thus today's arraignment.
It's of note that the 23-year-old accused in this case has been convicted of murder, but won an appeal after the only eyewitness was killed and before the re-trial.
