She's a hard nosed, no nonsense sergeant at the traffic section of the Police Department but tonight police are conducting an investigation into a traffic mishap involving Sergeant Josephine Hamilton. We today spoke with 22 year old, Hugh Belisle, deliveryman for 'Faya Haat Restaurant.'
Belisle says that on Saturday afternoon he was on a motorcycle heading west on Freetown Road towards the roundabout when Sergeant Hamilton came out of St. Thomas Street in her personal vehicle and hit him, causing serious injury. Now he's concerned that because she is a police officer and is in fact working at the traffic section, the investigation may not go fairly.
Hugh Belisle,
"I was my way back from delivery to work. I was traveling on Freetown Road and I a vehicle was approaching out of the junction of St. Thomas and Freetown and the driver of the vehicle just sped out and she hit me and she hit by motorcycle which I was on and I fell on the ground. I was skating, I got some peels and bruises, and I hit the divider for the street between my legs and the cycle came crashing behind, hitting me in the back. It broke my hip, it also gave me a slight internal bleeding, and I am suffering in pain right now and Miss Josephine Hamilton was the driver of the vehicle and she is also a police traffic officer. She says that I was the one at fault but if you could take a look at the scene, you would see who was at fault.
I've made reports, my family has made reports. There was an officer who came to my beside, took a report from me, and my sister also went there to give a report. She says Mr. Jeffries said that I was the wrong at fault so I just want you guys to know that I wasn't the one at fault and she was the one who hit me.
Really and truly in have a family sir, I have bills to play, I have this hospital bill too. Each time I take a trip from here to Medical Associates to get an ultrasound or for a checkup, I have to pay money for that. I have problems moving, I have pain at night, I have a tube from my nose down to my stomach which they just took out yesterday morning."
Alfonso Noble,
Would you feel better if she just comes and sees you?
Hugh Belisle,
"Just explain to me and come to a suggestion and some sort of way to work this out because as I explained, I have bills. I won't be working for a long period of time because this is my hip, its broken. They say its fractured but the doctors and nurses say fractured and broken are the same thing so I don't see the difference. I am lying down here right now talking to you, you see me sweating and all that. I am in pain and I am trying to fight it."
Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid today told us that the incident is being investigated and that due process will be adhered to in this matter regardless of her status as a police officer in the Traffic Department.
