A Belmopan man is tonight receiving treatment at that city's hospital after he was stabbed in the neck.

Reports are that 28-year-old Gerald Hewlett and another man Derrick Leslie along with other men were playing basketball on a court in the Piccini Area near the tennis court in Belmopan at around 6 yesterday evening. The two had a scuffle over the game and Leslie left only to return a few minutes later with a knife he had wrapped in a shirt. When he reached the area he pulled the knife and stabbed Hewlett twice, once to the neck and once between the elbow and wrist.

Belmopan police have since picked up Leslie, he was today taken to Magistrate's Court where he was remanded until 19th May on charges of attempted murder, grievous harm and use of deadly means of harm. Leslie is the son of Deputy Commissioner of Police Maureen Leslie. While Derrick Leslie is on remand, Hewlett is recovering at the Belmopan Hospital. The stab wound entered the neck and nearly missed his trachea.
