An innocent teenaged girl was injured during a shootout between police and a robbery suspect yesterday and tonight police still can't or won't say whose bullet hit her. Just after 5 pm yesterday, 17-year-old E.P. Yorke student Jenecia Sanker was riding her bicycle on Kraal Road when the shooting occurred. Sanker says she heard several shots and felt a burning sensation to her left elbow. She later realized she had been shot.
23-year-old Marlene Robateau says she was in the barbershop when a red skinned man dressed in a red checkered shirt and sporting a pony tail entered and ordered that no one move. He had an silver handgun which he pointed at Robateau and grabbed her black Motorola Razr cellphone which she says is valued at $995. The suspect fled and that is when an off duty constable set chase. Police say the fleeing suspect fired shots at the officer and that is when the constable pulled out his firearm and fired back. Area residents tell us the shootout headed up Kraal Road which ended when Sanker was shot. The bullet went through her left elbow and she was treated and released from the hospital. This evening Sanker declined our request for an interview.
