For anyone else it would most likely have resulted in criminal charges but the Police Department has effectively put the lid on a story that could have caused the department a serious black eye.

On Saturday, a car owner complained that four police officers attached to the CIB office in Belize City opened his car and stole a bag of pricey perfumes. Police launched an investigation singled out three constables and a sergeant. Facing a serious accusation, they agreed to return some of the perfumes and pay for those that they could not produce.

The officers had been working the evening shift at the CIB Office on Friday when the crime is alleged to have occurred. Today Press Officer G. Michael Reid was mostly mum on the subject. All he would say is that no one was detained, no one had been charged and there was what he characterized a minor matter that had been satisfactorily settled.
