It made headlines on June tenth of 2004 when police intercepted a Mercedes Benz sedan on Partridge Street with $180,000 in cash inside. At the time three occupants Joseph Garbutt, Anthony Williams, and Caryl 'Midget' Meighan were arrested and charged with money laundering. An additional charge of illegal possession of property was then added and during the process of the trial the original case of money laundering was withdrawn.
When the matter made it to the Supreme Court in November of 2004 a no case submission was made, the Chief Justice accepted it and threw the case out ordering that the money be paid back. But the DPP would not let it go and appealed to the Chief Justice in September of last year. By October the CJ ruled and ordered the money to be returned plus interest.
It seems however that the DPP's office was still not about to give up on that matter as today DPP Kirk Anderson appeared in the Appeals Court where he again tried to have the matter brought back. He failed however when the Appeals Court ruled against the request, upholding Conteh's final judgment.
