He is a young man with special needs and a diabetic but that didn't stop the police from brutally beating him. The young man is 21-year-old Winston Supal who is also known as Rojo. On Monday he was detained by police for allegedly threatening another young man who is his neighbor. Rojo was picked up and detained until Wednesday morning. In those two days, Rojo says a bag was put over his head, he was beaten, and his ribs were broken.
Winston Supal,
"They held me at the station. They called me up and they put a bag over my face and after that I asked them why were they doing it and they can't knock me because my ribs were already messed up. They said they didn't care because they wanted to finish me. They said they want to finish me and after I told them that they just put the bag over my face and started to kick me up. I told them to stop and they still didn't want to stop. They had me there for two days and they didn't want to let me go. When I was in the pisshouse and thing, others came in and started to knock me in my head."
Keith Swift,
What are your injuries Rojo?
Winston Supal,
"The doctors say that it is on the inside. It swelled up my ribs, my broken ribs are swollen. And then my lungs got messed up again. One of my lungs got swollen because of that."
Keith Swift,
Are you in pain?
Winston Supal,
"I am in a lot of pain right now because I just came out of the hospital and the doctor told me I can't even do any kind of hard work because I work and thing. I chop people yard and thing and I don't fool around anyone. I am not a criminal. Everything that I do, I work for my own money and that is what I am trying to tell them. I was trying to tell them that I chop yards and thing."
A doctor has classified Rojo's injuries as harm. And though he was charged with use of threatening words, a Magistrate has thrown out the case. Rojo is in the process of filing a formal complaint with the police's internal affairs.
