A man was shot at the corner of Lakeview and Banak Streets shortly after midnight on Saturday. 31-year-old Egbert Meighan is in the hospital recovering from a gunshot wound to his groin and upper leg. He told police that a dread-locked shooter wearing a red rag on his face emerged from a taxi and shot him with a pistol. Today, from his hospital bed, he told Alfonso Noble he doesn't know why he was shot.

“Last night I was just sitting behind Lakeview, me and one of my friends, were drinking a two stout. We just came from buying some cigarettes and we were sitting down talking and a car pass. The car had passed already and watched us. When it came back, it stopped at the corner of Banak and Lakeview and when I saw my friend run, I just ran too, and I heard a shot bust and I just felt it in my leg. I didn’t see who was the person.”

Do you think they were shooting at you or at your friend?
Egbert Meighan,
“Will it had to be me because he ran a different way from me and I was the one who got shot. I just felt a single shot catch me. I don’t know the problem they have with me. I always hang out at that spot, we are always there. Nobody has come and shoot after me there before.”
Alfonso Noble,
Were you able to recognize who he was or that kind of thing?
Egbert Meighan,
“I didn’t see any face. All I know is that he was in full red. I didn’t see his face or anything. I didn’t see a face.”

Do you think this is gang related?
Egbert Meighan,
“I don’t know what to say, I don’t gang bang. I used to be in those things when I was younger and I stopped that a long time ago. I don’t have problems with anyone so I can’t say it is that. I don’t know what is the problem. Maybe they had a problem with someone else and they just came and tripped on who they met because that happened late and I had just come from the park. I was at the park and it was home I was going when I met him and we went out there to buy a two stout and we went to sit down. I saw plain when the boy came out but I wasn’t studying the face.”

“I don’t have problem with nobody. I left them to God.”
Police have no one detained at this time.
