As part of the September celebrations, a new anthology of Belizean poetry and an exhibit of noted poets was launched this morning at the Bliss Center. The book is called "Sunset Jewel, Belizean Poets Anthology Volume One." It features the works of all those who submitted poems for last year’s Belizean Poets Contest. The display includes pictures and works from poets ranging from Adele Ramos to grandmaster to Evan X Hyde to Rita Sedacy.

Yasser Musa, NICH President
“In my view the most important development of the past twenty five years in Belizean poetry has been the growth of the spoken word format of the poem. With the mainstreaming of the electronic age, the inevitable leap of the printed word to the spoken word took root and has sprung many sprouts. Some have been noteworthy, others the expected mediocre attempts to jump on any trend that raises its head onto the public discourse.”

NICH President Yasser Musa was guest speaker at the launch and spoke about Belize's evolution from the written word to the spoken word. He also minced no words for those so-called poets trying to piggyback on the lyrical renaissance.
