A BDF Corporal killed a man over the weekend. The 33-year-old soldier Elroy Cacho says it was in self-defense but police say it was murder. Cacho and a 45-year-old fisherman, Thomas Sabal, have been jointly charged for killing 43-year-old Clifford Weller.

Information from police is that late Thursday night the now deceased Weller allegedly went to Corporal Cacho's house in the Benguche area of Dangriga armed with a machete. The two had a previous misunderstanding and it appears Weller went there to confront Corporal Cacho. Cacho told police that with the help of Sabal and a solid piece of 2 by 4 he was able take away Weller's machete.

In the struggle Weller was severely beaten and received a serious injury in the middle of his forehead. When police found him, they rushed him to the hospital but Weller never regained consciousness. He died at the KHMH on Saturday night.

Corporal Cacho and Sabal have been both charged with murder. Police say that even though the men have been charged with murder, the charge will likely be reduced to manslaughter if Sabal and Cacho's story is corroborated.
