It won't prevent crime, but a donation made today to the Police Department could help police solve them. This afternoon the Belize Chamber of Commerce's Western Union handed over a brand new digital camera to CIB Boss Chester Williams. Western Union Manager Danette Burns says the small donation is Western Union's contribution to the fight against crime.

Danette Burns, Western Union
"Western Union and the Chamber have always been generous to the Police Department in trying to accommodate them because we feel that if they are equipped, then they'll better serve the community. And being Western Union, where we do handle a lot of cash, we do need police to be properly equipped to help us, should in case we have any problems."

ASP Chester Williams, CIB Commander
"The 5.0 megapixel Olympus Brand camera which has been donated to us by the Chamber of Commerce and Western Union will be used to enhance the work being done at the Scenes of Crime Unit which operates for the Police Department in responding to crime scenes. At present the unit in Belize City only has one camera which from time to time is occupied at a crime scene and when there is another crime scene there is a delay in responding to other crime scenes because of the need for another camera. So with this additional camera, it will surely enhance our capabilities to respond to crime scenes in a more timely manner and to have crime scenes processed very quickly."
