And while there is now a manual to teach the next generation, the best of this generation was recently displayed at the Kaoshiung Fine Arts Museum in Taiwan. It's a collection of works by 25 Belizean artists and it made the return trip for Belize's 25th anniversary. We got a look.

"It is an exhibit that was displayed in Taiwan. This is just the visual art aspect of it. It also included historical parts which were assisted through the Museum and the Institute of Archaeology. This exhibit has twenty five artists well known like George and maybe not so well known like maybe Sarah Estephan or you looking at Sean Gibson and so forth. But it's a collection of artists who have emerged from since independence. It is kind of corresponding with the 25 years of independence.
What we've tried to do is just take a section of each movement, for example photography has taken a big leap in art so you have works from Richard Holder, Sarah Estephan, Jeremy Spooners, Parks, we have some of their photography. Then we have something more contemporary, more abstract, like work from Sean Taegar who doesn't paint but he does words and his words become art, Joan Duran, George Gabb, who has moved from sculpting out of wood to creating objects, creating sculptures from found objects, you have Santiago Cal, and then you go into the more traditional like myself, there is some from Pen Cayetano. And there is also another form where we look at surrealism and then we look at great sculptors like Curl Gordon himself. So it is a little tidbit of all the different movements that have been made in art and it was just to showcase where we are today; which mediums are we using, how are we expressing ourselves and what are we talking about through the paintings."
