It made headlines in April when Police Constables Jeremiah "Jerry" Usher, Gilroy Usher Jr., and Elton Eligio were charged for having sexual relations with an under age girl. Tonight, those three constables are free of the charges.
This morning 25-year-old Gilroy Usher Jr. and 26-year-old Elton Eligio appeared before a Magistrate where the charges of unlawful carnal knowledge were withdrawn by the Director of Public Prosecutions due to insufficient evidence. Gilroy Usher was additionally relieved of two counts of attempted suppression of evidence for allegedly offering the girl and her family money.
And while Gilroy Usher and Eligio were cleared today, on Friday the charges against Constable Jerry Usher were dismissed. Jerry was the third constable charged. And while the Ushers along with Elton Eligio are free from the charges, they are still on interdiction from the Police Department pending an appearance before the Public Services Commission.
The family came to 7NEWS in April after the 13-year-old girl became pregnant and the police were stalling the investigation.
