An Orange Walk Corporal has been placed under interdiction, accused of serious misconduct. On Thursday night, Corporal Isidiro Yam was leading a police operation in Orange Walk Town to crack down on illegal lottery vendors. The team took in two females who were selling the illegal boledo, detained them and confiscated their boledo books. But they weren't charged; instead when "21" played, the officers on the operation instructed them to write it into the book - and give them stubs for 800 pieces of that magic number. That would have yielded a payout of $2,450.

A ruthless scam, and today, Corporal Yam's number played. They took him before a police tribunal and put him on interdiction.

The complaint it seems came from two Chinese boledo bosses, who had hired the Belizean women to act as agents for them. When they saw the large winning being claimed, apparently, by the corporal's father, they became suspicious. That blew the case open, and police put the disciplinary charge on Yam because, while other junior officers were involved, he was in charge of the operation and is accused of cooking up the scheme.
