And while police are confident they will have Chun's killers by tomorrow, today they paraded the men suspected of killing Dayan Gordon on Sunday night. Gordon was killed as he stood at the corner of Iguana and Antelope Street on Sunday night. A car pulled up and someone in the passenger seat opened fire on him. Tonight police say they have both the driver and the shooter. They are 22 year old Alfred Conorquie and Callum Sutherland. Police also have the car used in the drive by, a heavily tinted Toyota Camry that they say is the property of Conorquie's girlfriend. Superintendent Chester Williams says he's glad the arrests were made before Dayan Gordon was buried.
Supt. Chester Williams,
"Our investigation, I must say, was conducted very intensely from the inception again the community came forward to us and gave us the breakthrough in that particular case and I am happy to say that we were able to solve that
particular case before the deceased was laid to rest."
Jules Vasquez,
Do you all know what was the motive for the shooting? Why did they pull up in the car and open fire?
Supt. Chester Williams,
"From our investigation, the motive is somewhat drug related. I will not go much into detail because Mr. Gordon was not a heavy drug dealer. He hangs out on the street corner and sells his little two dollar weed but he was not a person who has always been giving trouble to the police. He was a very quiet person and somehow advantage was taken of him."
Sutherland was also charged for abetment to murder. Both have been remanded. And what was the killing all about? Well sources say it was a kind of turf war for marijuana selling, because Gordon, they allegedly felt, had the so-called "good thing" and was controlling the market.
If the names Conorquie and Sutherland sound familiar, they should. Both were charged for the broad daylight robbery of the Princess Hotel in February of this year. At the time, Conorquie was working at the Princess and is accused of stealing $33,000 from the Accounts Department in collusion with Callum Sutherland.
Police say the pair may also be charged for shooting Cleopatra Tucker. She was hit by a stray bullet half an hour after Gordon was killed. Police will perform ballistics tests to see if the bullet removed from her skull matches those recovered from Gordon. Despite the serious injury, Tucker is recovering.
