Student activist and firebrand Moses Sulph was brought before the court today after a bench warrant was issued for his arrest. The bench warrant was issued because Sulph was to appear in court on November 24th, accused of breaking a police car's windshield in the unrest of early 2005. But he didn't appear and the warrant was issued for his arrest.
Today before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord, Sulph was fined $500, $200 of which is to be paid by December 12 and the rest by December 15th. Lord could have revoked his bail of $5,000 and remanded him, but elected to fine Sulph instead.
Sulph says he was unable to make his court date because of commitments he had in school.
