A man is detained after he allegedly ran over two girls and a woman in Punta Gorda. At around 6 on Friday evening police responded to the dump area of Punta Gorda where they found 8-year-old Agatha Cal, 12-year-old Juana cal and 21-year-old Martina Cal in the area. The two girls and the 21 year old were in the area crossing the street towards a gas station to use a telephone when a pickup knocked them down. The vehicle which had been seen earlier on parked in front of a bar in the neighborhood did not stop to render aid, instead it sped off.

Police have since recovered a pickup truck believed to have been involved. They have also detained one man pending their investigations.

As for the victims, 8-year-old Agatha Cal was treated and released from the Punta Gorda Hospital, 12-year-old Juana Cal received injuries to her legs and was transported to the Belmopan Hospital while 21-year-old Martina Cal received serious head and body injuries and has been transferred to the KHMH where she remains hospitalized.

Police have since charged the driver of the pickup truck identified as 36-year-old Negaspro McKay of Punta Gorda Town. He received charges of failure to report a traffic accident, failure to stop and render aid, and driving without due care and attention. Charges may follow pending the outcome of urine tests conducted on him as well as medical reports from the victims.
