A Guinea Grass man lost his life in that village and alcohol may have the blame. On Friday night at around 8, 46-year-old Orlando Gomez was drinking at a relative's home in the village. They were sitting beside a well when he got up to greet a cousin. But he had been drinking quite heavily, and when he lurched forward for the handshake. He stumbled on the stones on the edge of the well, which you see here.
Falling, he grasped his cousin's hand for support. But instead, the two of them tumbled into the well. Gomez fell first, so he was crushed by both the impact of his own fall, and the weight of his cousin falling on top of him. He died instantly. His cousin was seriously injured but is recovering the Northern Regional Hospital.
