The year's not over, but as of December 28, crime statistics show that 2006 was one of the deadliest years ever. There were 88 murders, compared to 81 in 2005 - almost a 10% Increase. 88 may be a new record as it eclipses the previous high on our records which was 87 in 2002. And while murders were up, fatal traffic accidents reduced sharply from 57 last year to 37 this year.
