An 8-year-old girl was knocked down in Belize City and a police officer is allegedly responsible. After 8 this morning, Atoya Dixon was riding her bicycle on Mahogany Street when a red ford escort without license plates knocked her down. The driver of the vehicle stopped, picked her up and took her to the hospital. That driver has since been identified as Constable Ryan Young. The girl's mother Lillian McCulloch had to find her daughter in the hospital. She sent Atoya to buy tacos and became worried when she took too long to come home.
Lillian McCulloch, Mother
"She took long and I said let me go bathe and go and see what she is doing. When I reached out there they told me that she was knocked down. I came to the hospital and when I reached here, I found her here bruised and thing. They told me that a police knocked her down.
She just saw this car coming fast and the car didn't stop or anything and just knocked her down. She said she just flew up and she dropped. But other people who see said the person was in uniform and they said he had just left from his job, he left his post and he wasn't supposed to have been there, he should have been at his job at the time and the person, I don't know what really happened because I didn't see.
It is an accident. You can't do anything, it has already happened. I am just glad and pray to God that nothing worse that this happened to her and I am glad for that. But at the least the person should have come and tried to pay their respects because I haven't seen the person yet. I don't know who it is."
Police Constable Ryan Young has been served with a notice of intended prosecution pending the outcome of police investigations.
