A 13-year-old boy was killed in a traffic accident this afternoon on the western highway. Around 1:30 Marvin Alexander Tobar, who lives in St. Mathew's Village, had just gotten off a bus near his home when he was hit by a pickup traveling in the opposite direction.
That pickup was driven by 39-year-old Felipe Flores who is the manager of Mount Carmel Credit Union. He was heading towards Belize City and told police that between miles 37 and 38 he saw a bus parked on the left hand side of the road. Flores says he was about to drive past pass the bus when out of nowhere a child strode onto the highway. Flores says he tried but couldn't avoid hitting Tobar. Tobar died on the spot. Flores' vehicle skidded one hundred feet.
Police are questioning Felipe Flores and charges are pending.
