Police have caught up with two men who they say preyed on cars left unattended outside the Marion Jones Stadium while their owners were exercising inside. Yesterday at around 6:00, 31-year-old Melenie Matus and 32-year-old Patricia Perez were inside the stadium while thieves were busy breaking into their cars outside. They made off with a combined $250 in cash, a cell phone, and various credit and identification cards.
Turns out, this had been going on for sometime and police were conducting undercover surveillance of the area. So the police were watching as two men circled by in a car, and as night fell, they got out and broke into one vehicle each. They collected the valuables and then hopped back into their car to head off into the night. But police intercepted the car and found the men with all the valuables. The police then alerted Perez and Matus who were exercising inside.
The two men are 29-year-old Geovanni Luriano and 27-year-old Marlon Harris, both residents of the Lake Independence area. Both men have been charged for theft.
