Prominent businessman and now accused killer Ben Abou-Nehra (Bou-Nahra) failed to appear in the Supreme Court this morning.
Abou-Nehra was scheduled to be in court to be indicted on a charge of murder for killing Shawn Copious in September of 2005. Instead of Abou-Nehra, his three man defense team of Dickie Bradley, senior counsel Ellis Arnold, and Kareem Musa appeared before Justice John Troadio Gonazlez. They told Justice Gonzalez that Abou-Nehra couldn't show up because he was out of the country for medical reasons.
Abou-Nehra is to be indicted for murder on the request of the former Director of Public Prosecutions Kirk Anderson. It's a battle Anderson fought viciously with the Police Department and it may have led to his undoing. The Police Department charged Abou-Nehra with manslaughter, not murder. Prior to leaving, Anderson obtained a warrant for Abou-Nehra's arrest for murder through the Supreme Court. It's not been swerved because Abou-Nehra has been out of the country.
The early indication is that new DPP Lutchman Sooknandan has reviewed the file and will prosecute Abou-Nehra for murder. ABou-Nehra's indictment has been adjourned until February 5th.
Abou-Nehra allegedly shot and killed Shawn Copious after he found him trespassing in his yard. Abou-Nehra's statement to police has mysteriously disappeared from the case file.
