Tonight the family of 74-year-old Ray Simon fears the worst after the body of an older man was found in the bushes near mile 46 on the Northern Highway. The body was discovered by farmers this afternoon two miles south of Carmelita Village.

Police say the body showed no visible signs of violence, but was in an advanced state of decomposition. Because of the clothing and physical description, police suspect it could be Simon. Also, the post mortem suggests that the person died on the 12th from a natural cause.

The body is now at the Orange walk morgue where Ray Simon's family will see if it is him. As we reported last week - Simon left his home in the Vista del Mar area of Ladyville on the morning of Friday January 12. He was believed to have been involved in a crash at the Orange Walk bypass later on the twelfth. He wandered from the scene and hasn't been seen since.

JUST IN: Ray Simon's family has since confirmed to 7NEWS that body is that of the 74 year old. His body was in an advanced state of decomposition but the family made the id based on the clothing and jewelry.
