Thieves broke into the Guatemalan Embassy in Belize City between last night and early this morning - and they got away with more than just a few household items.
46-year-old Manuel Pelloz told police that he forgot to turn on the alarm, and that's how thieves slid in through a window on the east side of the building. From inside, they stole a laptop computer and a camera. But that was petty theft cpmpared to what the thieves got outside, where they stole the embassy's gray Prado. But they didn't go far.
At 6:30 this morning, they crashed into Orange Walk businessman Mardona Leiva who was driving his Delivery truck toward Belize City. They rammed into the side of his delivery truck and the Prado overturned a number of times. Leiva told police he saw two young men dash out of the SUV. Police have impounded the Prado. The Guatemalan Embassy had no comment.
