There were four shootings in the city over the weekend and the good news is that no one died. The violence began around 9 pm on Friday night when 26-year-old Emrick Meggs was shot in his head and survived it. Meggs was shot while riding his bicycle on West Collet Canal towards the Yabra Bridge. Deputy Commander at CIB, Inspector Alden Dawson, is the lead investigator on the shooting.
Inspector Alden Dawson, CIB Deputy Commander
"A male person by the name of Emrick Meggs was shot at that location however he was taken to the KHMH. As a result police went over to the KHMH where they found Emrick Meggs at the Karl Heusner Trauma Room suffering from a single gunshot injury to the back of the right head which penetrated the head. The police conducted an investigation into that matter and at this time we are looking for a person who we believe could assist us in this investigation by the name of Brandon Taylor."
Keith Swift,
Any idea on what might have been the motive?
Inspector Alden Dawson,
"Again we believe it may be some previous misunderstanding between the two parties."
About 90 minutes after Meggs was shot, CIB investigators were called to another shooting scene. This one was on Elston Kerr Street where they found two shooting victims: they are 20-year-old Zane Garnett who had gunshot injuries to his pelvic area and two shots to his leg and 31-year-old Dionicio Howard was suffering from injuries to his left foot. Sergeant Andrew Ramirez is the lead investigator on that case and he explains that a masked gunman chased Garnett which is how Howard ended up in the line of fire.
Sgt. Andrew Ramirez, CIB Investigator
"Zane was standing in front of his residence on Elston Kerr Street along with two other individuals when the shots were fired from outside of Zane's yard by two unknown assailants. As a result both the persons ran to seek refuge or hide from the two individuals who continued firing shots in their directions. As a result, Dionicio Howard received a gunshot to his left foot as he was working on a vehicle on Elston Kerr Street and he tried to move himself out of harm's way but unfortunately he was hit on the left leg. These individuals afterwards made good their escape."
Police are seeking one suspect. The violence continued Friday night and into early Saturday morning when around 3 am Hattieville resident 21 year old Shaphon Domingo was shot on Amara Avenue. He received injuries to his abdomen, left thigh, and his back. CIB Chief Superintendent Chester Williams filled in the details on that one.
Supt. Chester Williams, C.I.B. Commander
"Domingo was hanging in the area along with a female friend when one

male person who was identified as Vincent Galvez, with whom he had had a previous misunderstanding earlier in the day, came back with a firearm and fired several shots causing injuries to Domingo. He sustained one gunshot wound to the abdomen, two to the back region, and one to the left thigh."
Police have since charged 18-year-old Vincent Galvez with attempted murder, dangerous harm, and use of deadly means of harm. Police have also made an arrest in another shooting that occurred in the city last night. Around 6:30 pm Kaylon Matura was riding his bike on Neal Penn's Road when he was shot by two men on bicycles. Matura was injured in his left arm. The shooter however didn't get far because CIB Chief Chester Williams was in the area at the time.
Supt. Chester Williams,
"My attention was drawn to a male person, two male persons riding on

separate bicycles and another male person riding alone. The two male persons who were on separate bicycles riding together were riding contrary to traffic on the Boulevard behind the other person who was riding with the flow of traffic. When I saw I one of the male persons who were together took out what appeared to be a firearm and fired five shots in the direction of the person who was riding alone on the bicycle. Subsequent to that the patrol team I was with pursued the person while I remained on the scene to contain the situation. The pursuit resulted in the apprehension of Carlton Tasher who was also found in possession of a.38 caliber revolver."
Keith Swift,
Any motive?
Supt. Chester Williams,
"At this point in time what we have understood is that there is a misunderstanding between Tasher and Matura and that misunderstanding is what have led to what occurred yesterday."
Keith Swift,
So you saved a man's life.
Supt. Chester Williams,
"Well basically yes the police did well in saving person's life."
20-year-old Carlton Tasher has been charged with attempted murder, dangerous harm, and use of deadly means of harm.
