In the past few weeks we've told you about numerous burglaries at schools and, in one case last week, the robbery of a teacher on a school compound. Well now the Belize City Council's Anti-Crime Committee says they can put an end to these crimes but they'll need help from the security companies to do it. Yesterday the Anti-Crime Committee headed by Chairman Norman Rodriquez launched an appeal for security guards or security cameras to be posted at all schools. Rodriquez explains.

Norman Rodriquez, Anti-Crime Committee
"Another school, another day. It has become too consistent now, this thing takes away from the educational opportunities for the young people and as the organization which believes in fighting crime, we want to do all we can so we made this appeal once again for assistance which will be diverted directly to providing security for the schools.

I believe it is everybody's responsibility to join in the fight against crime and crime affects everyone and so it provides some level of safety for them. Not even the security companies or the security guards are safe from crime. For all of us, it is a safer community and it gives us an opportunity to contribute back to the public."

Anyone interested in donating to the fund to deter this school burglaries can deposit contributions into Alliance Bank Account number 501-943.
