Two weeks ago, we told you about a policeman who killed himself in the Raccoon Street Station - and tonight the news is of a BDF soldier killed himself at the force's Dangriga training center.
On Friday at 10:00, 30-year-old Sgt. Santos Baltazar was found by staff at the training center dead in the camp's armory. He had a gunshot wound to the chest and an AR-15 rifle was found nearby. Police believe he killed himself.
Baltazar was a 12 year veteran of the force and was responsible for training volunteers. He had access to all the weapons in the armory. BDF sources tell us that the sergeant had been under considerable domestic and personal pressures.
While it is believed to have been a suicide, the BDF is waiting for the police to conclude investigation before they make a pronouncement. Nonetheless, he will receive a military funeral on Friday.
