A senior police officer is accused of driving drunk in another fatal weekend accident. On Saturday night Assistant Superintendent of Police and the number two man at the San Ignacio Police Station, ASP Martinez, was driving from San Ignacio to Belmopan when he knocked two people - 15 year old Felicito Chun and Vitalino Chun. Both were taken to the Belmopan Hospital where Felicito was pronounced dead on arrival.
Both Chuns are the children of another police officer, Sergeant Theodolpho chun who is attached to the Dangriga Police Station. Police say they are investigating the accident and have charged him for driving under the influence pending the outcome of tests.

"He was coming from San Ignacio, he was driving somewhere between Camalote and Belmopan when on the right hand side of the road he hit two young male persons walking. One of those persons subsequently died. That young male person is the son of a police sergeant who will be buried today. Mr. Martinez has been arrested and charged and we have done everything routine procedure to ascertain whether he was under the influence of liquor. In fact it was an initial part of the investigation to ensure that samples were taken and I can confirm that those samples have been taken and are already being tested for alcohol concentration."
