A 35-year-old mother of three has lost custody of her children and is being held pending criminal charges because police say it's her neglect that caused MJ's bar, pool and apartments on West Collet Canal to burn yesterday.
Apparently the woman left her three children ages 3, 6 and 7 years old unsupervised in room number 8. Reports say she leaves them regularly when she goes to work. But when she left the children yesterday, they allegedly set fire to a mattress and that led to the fire which burned out the rear of the building and caused water damage to the entire structure.
Those children have been taken over by the Social Department and the mother is being detained by police pending charges of neglect.
No one was hurt in the fire, the building was insured, and no other building was damaged. Still, owner Muncho Galvez says there's no recouping all the losses he'll endure.
