If everything goes as planned, by the end of 2009, there will be another dam on the Macal River. It's called the Vaca Hydroelectric and BECOL l today announced that it has started working at the site.
BECOL says that as a run of the river facility, Vaca will increase hydroelectric production by 33%. Similar to Mollejon, Vaca will feature a dam wall that's 150 feet high. BECOL and BEL, both Fortis companies, have signed a 50 year power purchase agreement ending in the year 2059.
While there was an epic environmental struggle to block the construction of Mollejon, BECOL says that it has gotten all major approvals, including a tax concession which was approved by the Senate on Monday.
