He was accused of raping a 19-year-old high schooler in June of 2005 at her home in the St. Martin's area. But today in court 36-year-old Carl Gillett was vindicated when a jury declared him not guilty after close to three hours of deliberation. Walking out of court with his wife at his side and tears in his eyes, Gillett told us that he did have sex with the young lady but it was consensual.
Carl Gillett, Acquitted
"The truth of the matter is I've been not guilty from day one, it's just that this young lady decided to put me through a burden. She had always tried to pass remarks. Well at the end of the day she threw herself at me. She knew what she and I had, did what we had done, consensually but at the end of the day, she went and she lied."
The teenaged victim had claimed that Gillett went to the young lady's house to do electrical work but ended up raping her. But then her account showed up as being inconsistent when her teacher testified that the young lady told her that a shadow had passed by her and grabbed her.
