Last night the boss at the Criminal Investigations Branch in Belize told us that three men had been charged for the daring home invasion of Derek Nisbet's home in Bella Vista on Saturday morning. Well it turns out that police have only formally charged two men, and what's more is that the third man, Marlon Harris, says he was roughed up. Here is his story.
Supt. Aaron Guzman, C.I.B. Commander
"We have Giovanni Luriano charged, a gentleman Harris charged, and Hilberto Gallego. Three getntle that were charged."
But only two of those men were really charged. Luriano and Gallego. Marlon Harris was not. He was detained and roughed up by police, but he was not charged. His brother Raymond Harris says that's because they had nothing on him.
Raymond Harris, Brother
"As a matter of fact at the time of the incident he was at home."
Keith Swift,
But police did detain your brother right?
Raymond Harris,
"Yes they did. They ransacked his house and one officer by the name of Palomo, he hit my brother so hard on his hand because my brother told him that he didn't drive a standard car."
Keith Swift,
Are you swearing for your brother?
Raymond Harris,
"Well I am not swearing for him because he has problems with the law but this one, I can definitely swear for him. He was home at the time."
Marlon Harris, Wrongly Accused
"All I got to say is that those men are chancey and thing and they are just beating man whenever they come and pick you up because they know you are linked up with certain man and even if you didn't do any crime, they will come for you and beat you down. That is why they have my hands swell up and thing and accuse me of things and tell me that I know where certain man are and where the guns are and this and that and I told them I don't know. I don't have anything to do with that. I just want them to know that it is stupidness they are doing and chancing man because people didn't do any crime and they want to treat you like you did crime. Accuse you wrongfully and thing."
Jules Vasquez,
You were not involved in the Nisbet?
Marlon Harris,
"Not. I was home at the time of the incident. They (police) came for

me on Saturday morning at about 11 o'clock as I got up, the first thing they came to do was beat me and rubbed down my house and ransacked it and thing and asked me about where the drugs are and where the guns are and this and that. I told them I didn't know what they were talking about. I told them that and they were just beating me and thing. When I reached at the station they locked me down and thing. One of them named Sanchez worked with my phone. I want to claim my phone saying that it is his phone from his girl which I stole. I don't know how I will end up with his girl's phone yet. But nothing like that is true. He worked with my phone and I want it back."
Jules Vasquez,
Now you're a man who has had many counteractions with the law before, you can't argue that.
Marlon Harris,
"Not really. It is just they that put it so. They put it so due to my lil bwoy Giovanni check. They know I does hang out with him but we aren't even linked like that again and that is what I am trying to explain to them. But if he did his thing, it is we they want to come for. I am innocent to that. I want them to investigate when they are coming to deal with a crime. They can't just come and pickup innocent man because they are chancing innocent man, innocent man who didn't do anything they want to come and beat down. When they do get the criminals they don't know how to deal with them."
Hilberto Gallejo and Giovanni Luriano (Lauriano) have been charged for aggravated burglary. Both were denied bail.
