Last week, the DPP didn't seem ready to charge 3 police officers for perjury. But likely responding to enormous public pressure, those charges went through late Friday night. At about 11:40 on Friday night, the instruction came down for Sgt. Anthony Polonio and Constable Darius Ramos who were formally Arrested and charged for perjury and contradicting previous evidence. And Sgt. Ramos and PC Polonio went to court this morning to be arraigned on those charges. No pleas were taken and both officers were released bail of $6,000 and sureties in the same amount.
Ramos was arrested over the weekend while Constable Polonio surrendered at the Queen Street Police Station this morning. Both men were represented in court by attorney Simeon Sampson. In addition to those criminal charges, they are also facing internal disciplinary charges for prejudice to good order and bringing the Police Department into disrepute.
