Most times when a police officer is accused of wrongdoing, particularly in a high profile case, he’s placed under interdiction. It’s common practice, but not standard practice and tonight, San Pedro residents are telling us of a notable exception. Sergeant Isais Sanchez remains on active duty, after killing 26 year old Jimmy Gutierrez. Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid confirmed this explaining that on the face of it, the killing was justified, because it has been established that Gutierrez had a gun.
An internal affairs investigation continues. Police recovered 7 expended shells from the scene. Residents of the area where he was killed claim that Sergeant Sanchez used lethal force indiscriminately; they say the Sergeant shot Gutierrez after he fell to the ground.
