He was convicted of carnal knowledge for having sex with a 10-year-old girl in broad daylight near Old College Beach, and now David Pavon will serve hard time for it. The 35 year old was sentenced today after mitigation pleas were heard from his wife, his sister and a friend.
And before being sentenced Pavon reiterated that he is innocent. But Justice Lucas told the court that despite the mitigation pleas, he had to weigh the fact that Pavon was caught in a public area having sex with a child and did not stop even after two passersby shouted at him. Lucas concluded that a man who commits such a crime must spend a minimum of 12 years in prison and a maximum of life. Lucas said he would not impose life, but gave him 14 years.
Outside the courtroom, Pavon hugged his wife and family before being sent up to the prison. He will not be eligible for parole until he serves 8 years.
