And about the same time that Alberto Martinez was shot down in Bullet Tree, 64 year old Pablo Escobar Castillo was being killed in San Vicente Village in the Toledo District – but this case is a little more involved than civilian versus cop.
Police report that at 2 on Christmas morning, Castillo went to 55-year-old Basilio Calderon’s home to buy wine. Calderon stayed and drank with Castillo but then the good times ended with Castillo accused Calderon of flirting with his 18-year-old common-law wife Sandra Jimenez. That led to a clash between the two older men over the much younger girl. Calderon claims Castillo picked up a piece of firewood which he took away from him, and during the struggle he struck Castillo across the head. It was a fatal blow and the 64-year-old Castillo died. That is of course Calderon’s story and police have since charged him for murder.
