Armed gunmen ran off with at least $10,000 in cash after a broad daylight armed robbery this afternoon at the Belize Unit Trust Corporation on Central American Boulevard. Managers confirmed to us that around 2:30 three men entered the office – two of them were armed with guns – one of which they immediately pointed at the security guard. Belize Unit Trust’s Chief Executive Officer Corine Fuller told us what happened next.

Corine Fuller, CEO – Belize Unit Trust
“Three guys came into our office and they robbed us. We had all the staff there and we had customers in the office as well, and we were really frightened. It happened about 2:30 this afternoon.”

Keith Swift,
They came in and what did they do, what did they say?

Corine Fuller,
“Well I wasn’t out there so I didn’t hear what they said but I do know we were robbed.”

Keith Swift,
Any reason why they chose to do this today, was today a particularly busy day for Belize Unit Trust?

Corine Fuller,
“Well everyday is a busy day but you could never tell the minds of people who do these things.”

Keith Swift,
You said customers were inside, did they just clean out the cash drawers or did they also rob the customers and staff?

Corine Fuller,
“Fortunately, our customers were not molested.”

Keith Swift,
Were their faces clear to be seen or did they have masks?

Corine Fuller,
“Well the police have interviewed the staff who saw them and I am not sure what they saw but the police have been very helpful to us, they are inside right now, and they are getting as much information as possible.”

Keith Swift,
As the CEO I assume you were in your office when this happened. How did you get your alerted that this was happening?

Corine Fuller,
“Well I heard the commotion outside so that was how I knew it happened.”

Keith Swift,
And the first thing you did was…

Corine Fuller,
“Pray because you’re frightened for your staff and you are frightened for the customers.”

Police visited the scene and a crime scene team dusted for fingerprints. There are no obvious suspects and police investigations continue.
