Since the general election in February, Senior Superintendent of Police Chester Williams has gone, in a manner of speaking, from grace to grass. That senior officer remains on suspension with half pay – and had everything set to get even in the Supreme Court. Last month, his attorney Godfrey Smith went to the Supreme Court and asked for leave for judicial review of Williams’s suspension. Leave was granted and the matter was to go to full hearing later this month.
But it was struck out today at the preliminary stage when no attorney appeared for Williams. Court was to begin at 9:30 but when no counsel appeared for Williams, Justice Awich struck it out. We understand that his attorney Godfrey Smith is out of the country. But though it was struck out, they can bring it back at a later time.
