Elbert Dawson may carry the title of a man wanted by police, but he’s not wanted; he’s just a mechanic who was simply bringing a vehicle to his home from Dangriga on the weekend. But when he got to his gardenia home, he found police embedded in his yard, waiting for him with guns loaded. He told us what happened next.

Elbert Dawson, Mechanic
“When I reached by my yard, I saw this young man lying in civilian clothes and so I stopped and I hollered and ask who they were. I asked them about ten times or more and they didn’t answer and they didn’t move.”

Jules Vasquez,
Why did you stop and ask them, were you concerned?

Elbert Dawson,
“I needed to know who was in my yard.”

Jules Vasquez,
They were in your yard?

Elbert Dawson,
“Yes they were lying down right beside an old vehicle I had in there.”

Jules Vasquez,
So you went into your yard?

Elbert Dawson,
“No, I didn’t go in. I stopped right there and after a while they jumped out and they said they were police and hauled out their guns. I stopped and held up my hand and they started to bust shots. At least 25 to 30 shots I heard.”

Jules Vasquez,
Why?

Elbert Dawson,
“Well the man said they were looking for Kevin Dawson. They told me they are looking for Kevin Dawson but I am not Kevin Dawson, I am Elbert Dawson.”

Jules Vasquez,
Do you have relation to Kevin?

Elbert Dawson,
“Kevin is my family, that is all.”

Jules Vasquez,
But is he your close family, is he someone that lives at your house?

Elbert Dawson,
“No.”

Jules Vasquez,
How many shots your vehicle got?

Elbert Dawson,
“At least about 8 or 9 nine milimeter shells I picked up off the road.”

Jules Vasquez,
And what happened after that? Did they arrest you?

Elbert Dawson,
“Yes they took me in to the station and I got released about this morning at 10 o’clock without charge or nothing.”

Jules Vasquez,
Any apology?

Elbert Dawson,
“Well they talk like they are sorry but I need to get my vehicle fixed because it is not for me. It is a job I am doing and I can’t give back the people their vehicle like that.”

Dawson says no one from the police is telling him who’ll compensate him for the damages to the Chevy Tracker. But he says it will cost thousands of dollars to repair.
