He was a police sergeant accused of presiding over a hideous case of brutality and tonight Raymundo Reyes is a corporal. He has been demoted after a police tribunal found him guilty of neglect of duty and prejudice to good order. He was additionally fined $300. On May 17th Sergeant Reyes was the non commissioned officer in charge when Constable Keith Cruz brutally assaulted Rhold Henry in the Southern Regional Hospital, handcuffing his hand to the bed, and beating him with the butt of a shotgun.
It was an outrageous report and so, does the punishment match the crime? Well, Rhold Henry’s attorney Antonette Moore says that the officer only received a slap on the wrist by the imposition of two minimal fines. She also gave the opinion that the department is hesitant to treat certain police offenders harshly.
