He’s considered a major, well-connected player but Gilbert “Gilly” Franklin is at the Hattieville Prison tonight on remand. That’s because when Police say that on Sunday they found him with what’s called an extended clip for a nine millimeter pistol. It’s an unusual charge, because Franklin has a license for the pistol and ammunition. But as police explained in court today the magazine exceeds the required number of rounds and the permitted size. And while it’s unusual, it’s very serious because under the new gun laws, being found with a prohibited clip means a mandatory remand.
Franklin’s attorney Ellis Arnold called the charge nonsense and tried to have it dismissed at the Magistrate’s court, but he was unsuccessful. He then shuttled directly over to the Supreme Court to try to get bail there, but that also failed. So Franklin was remanded and will remain there until at least after the Tenth. Formally, the remand given by Magistrate Aretha Ford should last until October 9th.
