As we told you earlier, there were no gun crimes reported in the city over the weekend. Except for this one, and its more likely filed under silliness than maliciousness. On Saturday night, police heard gunshots from an upscale neighbourhood near Brodies on the Northern Highway. They went to the Medina residence on Henderson Avenue where they found 22 year old Eder Medina who was arrested. Police say it turns out the licensed gun belonged to his buddy Andre Aguilar, but police concluded that Medina pulled the trigger.
The young man was charged for discharging a firearm in public. Oddly, he did not appear in court today – we’ll wait and see if the case is brought tomorrow. In what is possibly a lacuna in the new strict gun laws, a person can get bail for discharging of a firearm in public.
In the weekends only other gunplay – 26 year old Roaring Creek resident Felix Miranda was shot. It appeared to have come after a night of revelling. At 4:00 am on the 21st, Miranda was sitting in front of Smith’s Cool Spot in Roaring Creek when three men started to fight with him. One of them shot him in the leg. He identified them to the police, but they have not been arrested.
