One week ago twenty nine year old Salvadoran national Roberto Carlos Alvarez broke into the home of Belize Rural North Area Representative and Minister of State Michael Hutchinson for the sole purpose he claimed to steal a cellular phone. It was that device that led police to the accused and today he was sentenced to five years for the crime that he could have gotten the maximum of seven years.
After Roberto Carlos Alvarez was sentenced he told Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb–McKenzie that quote, “its God why he will spend five years in prison for burglary.” But the reason why he was only sentenced to five years is because the judge took into account that he had pleaded guilty and saved the court time.
The cell phone was valued at eight hundred dollars. It is believed that Roberto Alvarez gained access into the home by removing a glass louver from a window inside a bedroom.
